Valentines Day

Valentines Day is a great day to do lessons on friendship, kindness, teamwork and more. Here are a few ideas:

This Is Not A Valentine  by Carter Higgins

download (1)

This book is great for talking about showing thoughtful kindness everyday, not just on Valentine’s Day.

Activities: As an icebreaker I had students make Valen-Pal using this scavenger hunt. After reading we discussed what makes a good compliment and gave each other compliments using this FREEBIE activity from TPT.

Be A Maker by Katey Howes

1512498025

This book is great for covering a lot of topics such as; friendship, teamwork, creativity, and STEM skills.

Activity: I put the students in teams to make candy towers using gummies and toothpicks. (*pro tip: get it when it’s on clearance for the next year.) Instead of just giving them the materials I made them earn it! For each example of kindness or unkind behavior they could give me they earned one candy piece and two toothpicks. The students then worked in teams to create the tallest tower.
