15 Minute Focus: Behavior Interventions Book Review

This year I am trying to conquer behavior and I am feeling more prepared thanks to @amiedeanbehaviorqueen

I have been fortunate enough to hear @amiedeanbehaviorqueen multiple times, so I was thrilled when her new book “15-Minute Focus: Behavior Interventions Strategies For Educators, Counselors, and Parents” arrived. This book is definitely one you want on your bookshelf.

Amie’s strategies and mindset have always stuck with me- she’s a powerful speaker. Turns out, she’s a powerful writer as well. If you never had a class in behavior management before, this book is for you. If you are looking for a book to share with your teachers, this book is for you. If you are looking for de-escalation or actionable strategies, this book is for you.

My favorite section is all about the language of disagreement, which feels as powerful for adults as it does kids this year. For years now I have used her tip for verbal warnings. “If you choose_____then you choose_____.” It’s one of the most powerful tools in my behavior toolbox. This language has never let me down. Truly, my kids hear it, own it, and respect it. They are free to choose, but not free of the consequences.
