When we teach our students about a growth mindset, we often talk about the importance of learning from your mistakes and accepting that it’s ok to make them.

However, how often do we teach kids how to navigate failure? Not often enough I’d say!
“There’s a difference between having a failure and considering yourself to be a failure,” writes Andrea Burns in her new story “Failure Friday.”
The story encourages students to use the PIE method: put yourself out there, ignore negative self-talk, and enjoy the journey. While it may not be very explicit, this method is a great starting point to talk to students about navigating failure. It would be a great title to add to your small group on resilience!
It also encourages students to encourage each other, making it a great book to read as we start school to help set the tone for kindness.
